Field visit at the Captivating Seeds

Aug 10, Aug 24, Sept 14, Sept 28
Roulant farm, 261 Chemin Senneville
Montreal, QC

The Captivating Seeds is a demonstration plot of 3330 square foot that showcases forty five varieties of vegetables adapted to the nordic climate and organic agriculture, some of which are heirloom, indigenous or new lines selected directly by farmers. The seeds were provided by a dozen ecological seed growers of the region. Each visit will reveal different secrets of these varieties.

From August to October, we invite you to get acquainted with these delicious ecological varieties and the producers working to bring them to life. We will be working with passionate volunteers like Libertad Castro-Colina to cultivate the crops, collect data from observations and install signage. We will also offer educational tours and informative workshops with partners to bring the stories of these seeds to life. Finally, we will work with the chefs and restaurateurs to harvest, prepare, taste and compare varieties. The gardens are taking shape, so come on down!

Evergreen Brick Works, 550 Bayview Av
Toronto, ON

This year we bring our annual Seed Fest to Toronto!

Join us for a fun day saving and swapping seeds at the Evergreen Brick Works!

The Seed Fest begins at our Farmer’s Market table in the morning, where you can get a jump on next year’s gardening by purchasing seeds from our Canadian Seed Library and learning how you can get involved in our seed conservation projects. Enter our draw to win one of two gift baskets: one containing a $150 gift certificate from Lee Valley Tools, with our books and seeds; and another containing a $100 gift certificate from Big Carrot, with our books and seeds.

Then join our members, board, and staff at the Evergreen Brick Works’ Blakes room at 1:00 for an interactive hands-on seed saving workshop led by expert seed savers from Seeds of Diversity’s board, and executive director Bob Wildfong. Learn everything you need to know to save and store seeds that are vigorous, true to type, and healthy.

Take home seeds from our Seed Swap, and bring your own saved seeds to share with others. After a presentation from the Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security, members are invited to stay for our Annual General Meeting.
